World Series Final Game Draws 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest where the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate 51 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent rise over last year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
